Print Preview Window using Quartam Reports

Posted by Charles61 on September 27, 2008 at 5:33pm

Has anybody run into the following problem? In my Mac app, the print Preview window appears fully with no vertical scroll bar. In my Windows app, the preview window appears is smaller and has a vertical scroll bar. Both platforms are using similar screen resolutions that allows for the full preview window to show.

The screen shot pic shows screen resolution of 1142 by 773 pixels running Windows XP on Parallels software.

The same app on the Mac at 1680 x 1050 shows the full preview print screen. I know that the Mac screen resolution is higher but the screen pic suggests that it should show the preview screen without the vertical scroll bar.

Hi Charles,

It looks like the Geometry Manager isn't doing its job.
Is this in the Rev IDE or in a standalone? If in a standalone, did you include the Geometry Manager in the builder settings?

Hi Jan,

This is in the standalone. I did not include the Geometry Manager in the standalone because the stack itself is not resizable. Also, the program requires screen resolution of at least 1142 by 773 pixels. Otherwise the program gives a message to reset the screen resolution in the control panel before it can launch the program.

Hi CHarles,

Even if your stack isn't resizable, you should include the Geometry Manager to ensure that the Preview window resizes appropriately - it basically relies on this manager to put everything in the right spot once the preview window bounds have been set.

Jan,

I will do that but I really thought that this would not be an issue with the screen resolution being determined by the app before it would launch. Also, I do not understand why this is a XP issue and not a Mac issue. Can you address this for me?

Hi Jan,

How do you get to the Print Preview window to use the Geometry Manager?

Hi Charles,

All you need to do is make sure the 'Geometry Manager' is included in your stack's standalone settings. Then everything should work and the items in the preview window should react properly to a resize of its window.
And for the next functional update, I'll remove this dependency and write a manual resizer script.

Jan,

I am finally making the change to add the Geometry Manager to my project. I held off until I had some other changes to make to this project. I am assuming that adding the Geometry Manager changes to my main window will then take care of the Print Preview window. If I am incorrect in this notion, please let me know. In the meantime, I will go ahead and use the Geometry Manager for my main window of my app.

Hi CHarles,

I don't mean to force you into using the Geometry Manager for your own stacks - simply make sure it is selected in the Standalone settings window. You can still handle the 'resizeStack' events in your own stack to make sure everything is in the right place and the right size.
